Research For Editorial Illustrations

Editorial Artist: Hugo Cuellar
Artwork: The First Narco Nation

This artwork that Hugo Cuellar created was for a magazine issue. He had to create an artwork for an article that talked about North American control and export of tobacco plantations and how they shaped american history. I chose this artwork because its kind of like how we have to design a artwork on war crimes this ones on how america is at war with drugs. I liked the way that they designed this with the colour that makes this standout. i like how he created the shadows in this image. The line works pretty good too. This artwork really links to the criteria he was given to design the artwork about.

Editorial Artist: Rob McMaster
Artwork: The Tokyoiter Cover

This artwork that Rob McMaster has created is for the Tokyoiter project. He is basing the design of this editorial illustration on his experince in Tokyo. It shows how people are living like how most of them catch the train everywhere they go. This image looked very interesting to me because of the line work. I wonder if he used a tablet to draw the lines or just a ordinary mouse on a computer. I like how he uses the colour in this image too. The background colour goes well with the colour of the figures.

Editorial Artist: Adrian Foster
Artwork: The Time Reaper

This artwork that Adrian Foster created was for an article that talks about World War 3. I really like the Line work in this image and the black shading too. It must of took him awhile to draw this up. this work has a lot of detail in it. I like how the colors of the clock and the things around the skull makes the skull standout more. Especially how he made the smoke com out of its mouth. I hope that i could maybe create something as detailed as this one day on illustrator or photoshop.

Artwork by Mad Magazine

This artwork is what my one is very similar too. I like how characters a very cartoon looking and how the colour makes this artwork standout. I wanted my artwork to be as good as this one but i still need to work on my editing skills a lot more if i want to be as good as this one.

3 album cover research

3 ALBUM COVER RESEARCH

Album: Kanye West, Graduation (2007)
Artist: Takashi Murakami

Takashi Murakami is an Japanese artist who created this album artwork for Kanye West's album Graduation. I like the character designs in this album cover. I also like the way the color was used in this because it makes the characters standout especially the character in the top left in the image. I also like how the artwork is similar to the name of the album because how it shows the characters in their gown throwing their graduation hats up in the air. The color of text makes the title standout because it has a brighter color on top of a darker color which makes it stand out more.

Album: Rick Ross, Mastermind Deluxe (2014)
Artist: Mr Brainwash

Mr Brainwash is the named used by the artist Thierry Guetta. He is a french born street artist. Rick Ross teamed up with him to create this albums cover. This is the type of album art that i wanted to create for mine when i did mine. I like the way that he made the blood colorful because it looks like one of those pop art kind of artworks. I also like the way that they colored him in because I still don't know how to color in the shadows and that properly.

Album: The Smashing Pumpkins, Zeitgeist (2007)
Artist: Shepard Fairey

Shepard Fairey is an American artist who specializes in street art, graphic designer, illustrator and is the founder of OBEY. The Smashing Pumpkins teamed up with him to create this album cover. I like the way he makes use of only the color red which ranges from dark red to a brighter red. The fonts both stand out because both of them is a bright color layered on top of a dark color and is easy to read.

illustrator practice

illustrator research

this taught me how to properly use the pen tool

illustrator practice
atfer watching those videos on youtube i had a little practice on illustrator

i got a skectch drawing of the internet and tried to doo what they did in the videos that i watched. I used the pen tool to outline the image then i added color into it. This took quite a long time to do. I couldnt get the details or the shadows in yet.

Illustrator works I've been looking at on youtube

This video taught me the basics on how to use illustrator. He starts by drawing the outlines of the chimp then brings in the helmet. he adds the detail in for the chimp then he adds the color. then all the shadow and the highlights on it. this was all done on seperate layers. and this was the outcome.
